Love, Dream, Faith... A Poem

Whenever I feel like just taking everything slow, I would just sit all alone with a pen and paper and think of something to write. It's been a long while since I got the inspiration to write a poem. This is one of my later works, written 5 years ago. My mom made it a part of her book which was copyrighted in the US Library of Congress in 2011 so I still needed to ask for her permission to put this on my blog. It is actually a lyric poem, I have a tune in my mind but I just don't play any musical instrument so I can't put on music. Well, I hope you'll like it, here goes...

LOVE, DREAM, FAITH

I tried hard to wipe myself clean
Didn't stop till I'm sure that I'm shining
But you see beyond the surface
I'm not surprised you're not at all impressed

Yell all you want, I'm not moving
I'm taking a stand here while I'm lying
Here comes the righteous ones' advice
I'd rather heed magic eight ball's replies

But in the craziest weather
I have braved the road alone
While everyone's taking cover
I was welcoming the storm

Someone in his right mind would say I've earned my right
So who are you now, a bully picking a fight?
You claimed you just saw a "kick me" sign on my back
As I turned I caught you aiming for a clear shot
What's the different between players and ex-lovers?
Making life here on earth a lot less friendlier

I thought you're gone ages ago
But you're still here criticizing my flaws
Why am I putting up with this?
Clearly it's one of those things I won't miss

Love, dream, faith, all overrated
No need to be in the order stated
I'm not sure I want them, too, myself
Just following suit with everyone else

    1. If I get to write enough poems for a book, I will self publish, good thing we have that option now. Just to see my name on the book, haha.

  4. Beautiful poem! You mentioned you have a tune in mind. Why don't you ask a friend to play it for you? It'll make a powerful song. :) Great talent you have! :)

    1. Yes, go for it and when you have enough for a book compilation, you can self publish. I'm planning to do it, too.

  9. I used to write a little myself but with the hustle and bustle of life I haven't been able to write down my thoughts like I used to. Congrats on your poem being featured!
