Cute Crochet Hats

The reason I got into crocheting is my baby. I just love seeing her with those cute and funny hats and costumes. Most took me longer to finish than the time she wore them, haha, but she loves playing with the hats when she's not wearing them. One of the first words she learned is "hat". She would call anything that she could put on her head a hat.

These are just some of her unique "hats", her feeding bowl, a diaper, and a doll's dress, others that I missed taking a picture of are her small laundry basket, a box, a small basin, her shorts or panties, and a lot more, once I saw her balancing an open book on her head and shouting hat, hat. She's so adorable, haha. When she's having a hard time putting them on, she would ask us to help her, she'll just give us whatever it is, point on her head, and say hat. I guess a lot of kids do this, putting things on their heads, that's why it's really important to keep anything that could cause suffocation away from them.

I love making hats for Jordana as much as she loves wearing them. My favorites are the Star Wars ones, Princess Leia, Yoda, and Ewok. I just looked for free patterns online for the hats and made adjustments like changes in number of stitches, rows, sizes of hooks, and yarns used. I made most of the hats maybe a year ago so I couldn't recall every detail but I'm going to give links for patterns I used and other helpful sites. The patterns were mostly for adults that's why I need to make adjustments, they're not hard anyway since most are just beanies with designs and I already know the size for my baby's beanie.

This Yoda hat is just a beanie with earflaps and braids and the Yoda ears attached to it. This pattern from Stitch11.com is what I used but I made some changes to make the ears less droopy, but this is a nice pattern as a guide to get you started. I may have used a different pattern for the beanie for my baby's size and added those earflaps. This tutorial from Crochet Geek on YouTube on how to crochet a baby hat with earflaps is an easy one to follow.

I call this one Goldilocks hat. I got the pattern from Crafterchick.com where she used blue yarn which is also cool. I just added two more curls on each side because I was using a not so thick yarn.

This Princess Leia hat is also just a simple beanie with the rolled up hair attached to it. So you can just use any pattern for the beanie, too. I just made changes on the stitches from a regular beanie to get that shape on the forehead. I did not use any pattern for this from other sources, I just decided what to do as I work, sadly, I did not make any notes for the pattern but I looked for a source that can be helpful and this pattern for the main hat and the bun from Stitchingupastormcrochet.blogspot.com could be a nice guide.

My little Ewok, haha. Any baby would definitely look more adorable when wearing this. Thanks to the free pattern from Tinypurrs.com. I just added those little details on top for more Ewok cuteness.

Tiny Viking here, so cute. The pattern I followed for this one is also for an adult sized hat so adjustments were made, too. This is from Crochetparfait.blogspot.com. I remember having difficulties with the horns, I didn't know what I was doing wrong but I kept on getting a twisted finish, there was probably a row I misread twice, because I tried it again, same result, so I just looked for another pattern for a horn and I found this from Yarn-over.tumblr.com.

I love the classic look of this cloche hat. I made this to match that dress, her flower girl dress for my brother's wedding. I got the pattern from Cre8tioncrochet.com.

This sun hat is for Jordana's first beach experience, which she had in Dakak. That trip was also her first plane ride. I used pink yarn for the hat to match her wet suit and flip flops. Stitch11.com has free patterns available for babies, toddlers, kids, and adults.

I think I'll be making new hats for my daughter again soon. She can still use some of these since they stretch but a little girl can never  have enough hats.

Gotta go. Thanks for visiting.
